A small computer network that connects a relatively small amount of computers, usually in close vicinity of each other.

Leased line
A permanently-connected private telephone line between two locations- regular phones, computers, etc.
Link
Special sections on a Web page, usually underlined or of a different color, referring to other locations on the Internet. If you click on such an area, you will be taken directly to the item's location on the Internet, whether it's a Web page, a Gopher site, etc. (See Web page, hypertext, browser, HTML, hot link.)
Listserv
A famous program that automatically creates mailing lists on a variety of subjects.

Log in
The process of identifying yourself to a computer you want to work on, by providing your userid/username and password.

Lurkers
People who read discussions on the IRC without joining in and contributing to them.

Lycos
One of the most common search engines. Lycos lets you conduct both keyword-based and menu-based searches. (See search engine.)
